I was driving my motorcycle down the highway when my passenger leaned forward and shouted in my ear, “You’re looking down too much!” Then I remembered that was a warning that the instructor gave us at our safety training class! “Know where you are going….look straight ahead! Don’t look down… you’ve already been there!” I had not driven for over a year and felt like I was beginning all over again! I needed to remember where I had been but focus on what was ahead of me.
Sometimes life gets out of focus for us. We lose track of our goals and concentrate on where we are instead of where we have been! We have long and short range goals. There are goals for the rest of the day and goals for the rest of our lives?
It is easy to be distracted by what could have been or might have been instead of focusing on where we are headed.
My goal for this morning is to finish writing the Kernel but my mind keeps reminding me of the doctor’s appointment later this morning and the clothes dryer keeps buzzing and telling me it’s finished. Besides that, my coffee is getting cold! Do you get the idea? It would be easy to jump up and get ready to leave the house, fold the clothes and heat up the coffee but if I did any one of these things, who knows when I would get back to the task at hand.
Hebrews 12: 1 says, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith…”
Keep your head up and focus on your goal!
